Gear Review: The Roadie 24 Cooler from YETI

YETI Roadie

I’ll be honest — with several YETI Tundras and a couple of soft coolers, I just couldn’t envision where the new YETI Roadie 24 might fit into my cooler life. Thinking it was a bit on the small side, I imagined I might always opt for one of the larger Tundras when facing a choice. Turns out I was wrong.

The YETI Roadie 24 might just be the perfect day trip cooler — especially for duck hunters. What never occurred to me when considering coolers is that by going smaller with the cooler, you ultimately get more room in the truck for other gear. With that — why bring more cooler at the expense of gear or space?!

The YETI Roadie 24 is an upgrade from its predecessor. I never used the former Roadie, so I’m not able to compare, but YETI claims the new Roadie is “10% lighter weight, holds 20% more, and even performs 30% better thermally.” In my experience, this cooler was everything I wanted it to be. The cooler fits very well in numerous areas of the car (from the trunk to behind a seat to between back seats), and its small size also makes it accessible. (Some of the Tundras are so big, you can’t even fully open the lid inside the car.) Duck hunting is a social activity for many. It’s also nice to be able to have a small cooler that doesn’t take up too much space in someone else’s vehicle.

Among other features, the Roadie 24 has a carrying strap and is generally easy to carry. (The larger YETIs can be a haul, especially when weighed down by drinks and ice.) It also has new easy-to-use latches. On a solo road trip, it’s great to have this cooler on the passenger seat and is easy to get in and out of. And of course, this cooler keeps contents cold impressively long and is as durable as you’d expect from YETI. This is the perfect cooler to take to the blind without taking up much boat or blind space. You can also easily sit on it and keep ducks inside. (Perfect space for that.)

The YETI Roadie 24 is $199.99 and (currently) comes in five color options. Great cooler. Highly recommended.
